Getting Started

What is SpecNook?
SpecNook is a project management platform built specifically for general contractors. It helps you manage selections, contracts, change orders, lien waivers, and daily updates — all in one place. Your clients get their own portal to make selections and approve documents.
How do I get started?
Sign up for a free trial, create your first project, and start adding selections and documents. You can share a portal link with your client in minutes — no training required.
Do my clients need an account?
No. Clients access their project portal through a secure share link. They can view selections, approve documents, and sign contracts without creating an account.
Can I import existing project data?
Currently, projects are created manually in SpecNook. We're working on import tools for future releases. Most contractors find it quick to set up a project from scratch or from a template.

Features & Functionality

How does selection tracking work?
You create categories (Kitchen, Bathroom, Flooring, etc.), add items with multiple options including photos and prices, and your clients choose their preferred option from the portal. You can track what's pending, approved, or ordered.
Are e-signatures legally binding?
SpecNook's in-app approvals are designed to comply with the ESIGN Act and UETA. Each signature captures the signer's name, timestamp, IP address, and device info for a complete audit trail. Consult legal counsel for your specific jurisdiction.
Can I customize contracts and documents?
Yes. Create reusable templates with merge fields that auto-fill client and project data. Use Markdown formatting for professional-looking documents.
How do change orders work?
Create a change order with a description, cost breakdown (labor, materials, tax, markup), and schedule impact. Your client reviews and approves it directly from the portal with a single click.
What is the client portal?
The client portal is a branded, shareable link where your clients can view project progress, make selections, approve change orders, sign contracts, and view daily updates — all without needing an account.

Pricing & Plans

Is there a free plan?
We offer a generous 15-day free trial with full access to all features. After the trial, choose the plan that fits your business.
Can I change plans later?
Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade at any time. Changes take effect at the start of your next billing cycle.
What happens to my data if I cancel?
Your data is retained for 30 days after cancellation. During that time, you can export your projects. After 30 days, data is permanently deleted.
Do you offer annual discounts?
Yes! Annual plans offer significant savings compared to monthly billing. Check our pricing page for current rates.

Security & Data

Is my data secure?
Yes. We use enterprise-grade security: encryption at rest and in transit, row-level security policies, secure authentication, and rate limiting. We do not use third-party analytics or tracking.
Do you sell my data?
No. We never sell your personal information. We only use your data to provide the service. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Can I export my data?
Yes. You can export project data, documents, and records at any time. We believe your data belongs to you.

Do you offer onboarding help?
Our platform is designed to be intuitive — most contractors are up and running in minutes. For Enterprise plans, we offer personalized onboarding assistance.
